The Herricanes
The Houston Herricanes played in the first women's professional tackle football league in the 1970s. These determined athletes took to the gridiron despite adversity and hardship and played purely for the love of the game. Their unknown story is one of courage, strength, and grit. While female participation in sports has grown exponentially since the passage of Title IX, the battle started by the Herricanes is still being fought today as football remains the final frontier for women in sports.
