Ben Roethlisberger

One of the National Football League's greatest passers, Ben Roethlisberger led the Pittsburgh Steelers to Super Bowl glory while also breaking numerous records as both a college and professional player. Born Benjamin Todd Roethlisberger in Findlay, Ohio, he was a talented athlete in several sports during his high school years, including basketball and baseball, but did not blossom as a football player until his senior year, when he moved from wide receiver to quarterback. After throwing for six touchdowns in his first start, he was offered a full scholarship by Miami University in Oxnard, Ohio. There, he set school records for passing yards and touchdowns, which led to his selection as quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2004 National Football League draft. Initially enlisted as the No. 3 quarterback, Roethlisberger stepped into the spotlight after injuries sidelined fellow Steelers Tommy Maddox and Charlie Batch. He soon led the team to an impressive 15-1 season and earned the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award from the Associated Press in 2005. Injuries kept him off the field for much of the 2005 season, but he soon recovered and led the Steelers to victory over the Seattle Superhawks in Super Bowl XL. A motorcycle accident sidelined Roethlisberger for most of the 2006-2007 season, but he again returned to win his second Super Bowl in 2008 against the Arizona Cardinals. Personal troubles, including two allegations of sexual assault that led to a four-game suspension in 2010, and major losses at Super Bowl XLV the following year, plagued Roethlisberger until 2014, when he achieved a series of career-high standings: he was named the fourth NFL quarterback to get 100 wins in his first 150 starts, and joined Tom Brady, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning as one of six quarterbacks in the history of professional football to defeat at least 31 different teams. The following year, he signed a five-year extension to his contract with the Steelers.
