An aspiring actress is found unconscious in Central Park with drugs in her system and evidence of sexual trauma. Detectives Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Amaro (Danny Pino) pay a visit to the reality show producer (guest star Michael McKean) for whom she had auditioned just before the attack, and stop him from assaulting another actress (guest star Miranda Lambert) on the casting couch. The detectives arrest the producer, but the situation turns dangerous when his distraught son (guest star Cameron Monaghan) takes drastic action in order to get his father out of jail. Meanwhile, Benson and Executive ADA David Haden (guest star Harry Connick Jr.) grow closer. Also starring Ice-T (Detective Odafin Tutuola), Dann Florek (Captain Donald Cragen), Richard Belzer (Sergeant John Munch) and Kelli Giddish (Detective Amanda Rollins.) Kate Hollis Snyder, an attractive 28-year-old woman, has plunged to her death. Her new husband, Don Snyder (William Atherton), is a powerful and rich businessman. Kate lived with Don and his two children on the Upper East Side but kept her old apartment to use as an art studio, which became the scene of the crime. Detectives Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Green (Jesse L. Martin) realize Kate's death was no accident, she was pushed. After finding out that Kate was spending her new husband's money to renovate their apartment and hired her ex-boyfriend as the contractor, they question her husband. He initially gives an alibi but then admits that he was at the apartment the night of her death, but swears he didn't see her. Since his DNA doesn't match the perpetrators DNA from under her fingernails, he's off the hook. Next they question Gary Phillips (Joseph Murray), the contractor and her ex-boyfriend. His DNA is under her fingernails, but he says it's from an encounter they had earlier in the day when he tried to kiss her. Then the medical examiner makes an important discovery that changes the direction of the investigation.

The team searches for an injured U.S. soldier, Private First Class Kevin Grant (Devon Gummersall), who recently returned from war. Upon his homecoming from Iraq, Grant discovered that his business went bankrupt, and he's about to lose the home he shares with his fiancée, Sara (Kelly Karbacz). Asked by the U.S. Army to assist in finding the missing soldier, the investigators learn from Sara that he'd been frantically trying to salvage their dire financial circumstances before returning to Iraq. Later, the team uncovers an apparent cover-up involving a firefight in which Grant was wounded. Jack and Danny travel to Iraq to learn whether or not the dangerous and controversial circumstances of Grant's last firefight could have put the soldier in jeopardy at home or if he has succumbed to post-traumatic stress and his desperate financial woes.
