Dre wants the family to feel more connected so he encourages "Team Johnson" to embrace what it means to have each other's backs. But Dre creates trouble for himself when he falls short of Bow's expectations. Meanwhile, Bow and Dre invoke "Team Johnson" and put the less-than enthusiastic Zoey and Andre Jr. in charge of babysitting the twins.

Nate comes out of hiding to directly challenge Sterling and Blackpoole: this time, he's going to steal both David statuettes right out from under their noses. But Nate's bigger challenge is to get his fractured team to work together again. On Christmas Eve, Team Scorpion must prevent a catastrophe when torrential rains create a large crack in a dam, threatening to wipe out an entire town in its wake.

Lt. Casey (Jesse Spencer) is unable to rescue a woman who becomes trapped inside her burning greystone, prompting him and Lt. Severide (Taylor Kinney) to butt heads over the husband's role in the tragedy. Herrmann (David Eigenberg) is on a mission to catch a mystery tagger that keeps targeting their firehouse and Boden gets a surprise visitor. Meanwhile, Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Brett (Kara Killmer) respond to a 16 year old boy who was injured during a romantic homecoming proposal.

While responding to a call in the field, Dawson (Monica Raymund) accidentally hits a pedestrian who stepped in front of the ambulance, and is left to deal with the repercussions. Lt. Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Lt. Severide (Taylor Kinney) disagree and continue to investigate an arson case while Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) is left to decide whether to attend an important function in New York. Elsewhere, in hopes of preparing him for a possible promotion, Lt. Casey (Jesse Spencer) puts Herrmann (David Eigenberg) at the helm for a shift so he can discover firsthand what his superiors deal with.
