Westport is known for its Halloween tradition of leaving an anonymous note and goodies on a neighbors' doorstep - called a "Boo". Katie is absolutely giddy when the Ottos receive their first "Boo," only to find out it was put there by accident.

Jane (Gina Rodriguez) convinces Alba (Ivonne Coll) to let her read the letters from her estranged sister, but under the condition Jane doesn't reach out to her family. Rafael (Justin Baldoni) is starting to suspect that something is different with Petra (Yael Grobglas). Meanwhile, Michael (Brett Dier) and Rafael, with the help of Jane and Rogelio (Jaime Camil), try to create a civil friendship, but it doesn't go as smoothly as everyone hoped. Andrea Navedo also stars.

As Max and Caroline’s road trip misadventures continue, their lack of money finds them stowing away and waitressing on a riverboat to New Orleans as Max tries to reach Randy in Texas. Back at the diner, Oleg and Sophie rake in big bucks when they sell pony rides with Chestnut. RuPaul guest stars as himself.

When Jane (Gina Rodriguez) is offered a book deal, she thinks her prayers have been answered and debates quitting her awful publishing job. After suffering from panic attacks, Jane is ready to get to the root of the problem. Rogelio (Jaime Camil) and Xo (Andrea Navedo) are working on fixing their friendship until Xo finds out that Rogelio has been lying to everyone all this time. Petra (Yael Grobglas) is running damage control on the Marbella's reputation after a grisly discovery is found on the property. Meanwhile, Rafael (Justin Baldoni) is ready to be involved again in the Mirabella and his first order of business is finding the perfect person to manage the hotel lounge. Brett Dier and Ivonne Coll also star.

When Jane and Rafael realize that the uncertain state of their relationship is stressing out Mateo, they decide that they need to make a decision.  Petra is on the outs with Jane and Rafael after the Luisa fiasco so she tries to figure out a way to get back into their good graces.  Meanwhile, Rogelio and Xo are both contemplating their career choices.
